Smartwatch apps are simple, similar to mobile phone applications but standalone. With the growing popularity of smartwatches, these smartwatch apps have gained more popularity, and companies are working with software developers to create new smartwatch apps which can be helpful for end customer usage.
Many smartwatch apps are available for smartwatches. Some are free, and some charge money from end users for app usage. Some of the smartwatch apps are:
Shazam
Google Now can independently recognize and identify songs on the smartphone. In the case of Android Wear, however, this is unfortunately not a native feature so far. The only question is why? After all, this function would be much more practical, especially with a smartwatch, than pulling the smartphone out of your pocket every time.
Good thing Shazam exists. Because this Android Wear app does exactly what Google Now can’t: it identifies songs. And she does that well. Start the app with a voice or touch command – the software is already looking for music. Identified songs are instantly displayed on the watch and saved to a playlist.
In some cases, the Shazam app even displays the lyrics. Various Shazam apps are available in the Google Play Store – the Wear functionality is the same for all versions.
Google notes
The best note-taking app is on your smartphone: Google Keep. This app is only preinstalled on some Android phones by default, but it’s an absolute must-have for Android Wear owners.
All notes can be accessed via the software. In addition, the notes can be archived or linked to reminders. The lists can be scrolled, and new items can be added by voice command -, or old ones can be shortened.
New notes can – also via voice command – be created completely via the smartwatch. As usual from Google, this app is also free.
IFTTT
The web-based automation platform “If This Then That” (IFTTT) also supports Android Wear. Once you’ve checked in, the app on the smartwatch is just as useful.
If you have yet to learn the service: With IFTTT, many different services and platforms can be linked. In concrete terms, IFTTT can create a button that controls the WiFi function of a smartphone, sends a text message, or switches the light in the apartment.
In addition, various notifications can be sent to the smartwatch. Thanks to IFTTT’s multichannel concept, the possibilities are wide-ranging. Ideally, the whole package for Android Wear is also completely free.
Weather Timeline
The weather check is a good use case to justify the existence of smartwatches because checking the weather via the smartwatch is easier than pulling the phablet out of your pocket.
Weather Timeline is refreshingly ascetic at this point – but it adapts almost perfectly to the Android Wear platform. The app creates a weather view with essential current information.
A swipe to the right brings up an hourly forecast, and another swipe opens forecasts for the coming days. The design is pleasantly simple and is limited to the essentials.
Wear Aware
Your Android watch is permanently connected to your smartphone. A disconnect usually does not bode well for the condition of the pocket computer, which is usually expensive.
Wear Aware promises you’ll never forget your smartphone again. Once installed (on both devices), the app reports to the Android Smartwatch immediately if the connection to the cell phone is lost.
Also useful: If you can’t find your phone again, ring it with a smartwatch command. This Android Wear app is also free.
Wear Audio Recorder
An Android Wear smartwatch fulfills quite a few functions. Among other things, you always carry a microphone around on your wrist.
You can use that to your advantage with the Android Wear Recorder app.Open the app, start recording, pause, and stop – all from a single interface.
All recordings are then synchronized with the smartphone. Additional app fine-tuning can be operated on the latter. For free, the app offers quite a lot.
Endomondo
Smartphones and training sessions usually do not get along at all. A smartwatch is more practical. The only thing that needs to be added is the right fitness app, which brings us to Edomondo.
The app’s free version allows you to set up workout types and take times. Of course, you can also track your progress. If you are willing to invest money, you get more in-depth functions.
Coffee
Google has given it’s Android Wear apps various rudimentary messaging functions, but taking the phone out of your pocket is usually better. The free app Coffee wants to make text message creation faster via Android Wear.
And so does she. Coffee can respond to text messages with various customizable responses, start new conversations with favorite contacts, and respond to voice commands.
Photo Gallery for Android Wear
You can already take photos with your Android smartwatch, thanks to PixtoCam. With Photo Gallery for Android Wear, you can view the recordings on the watch display.
After opening, the app provides a scrollable view of all photos on the smartphone. Individual photos can be opened with it – a zoom function is also available. Smartwatch displays are less suitable for this – but you can use the app to check whether the quality of the photos is right.
